Hyatt Regency Aurora-Denver Conference Center

LOCATION SPOTLIGHT: AURORA / DENVER, COLORADO

Welcome to the Mile High City! Here is your insider guide to making the most of your time in the Aurora-Denver area during the 2026 NAPPSA Conference.

  Nigerian Restaurants

Craving a taste of home between sessions? The Denver metro area has a growing Nigerian and West African dining scene:

  • Akwaba Restaurant — 16251 E. Colfax Ave, Aurora, CO 80011. Rated #1 West African restaurant in the region on Yelp. Serves Egusi Soup, Jollof Rice, Fufu, Grilled Red Snapper, Peanut Butter Soup, and Fried Plantains. Family-owned with generous portions. Just minutes from the conference hotel.
  • African Grill and Bar — Denver metro area. Family-owned; serves Nigerian favorites including Jollof Rice, Fufu, and Egusi Soup. Suitable for groups.
  • Jollof Jollof Cuisine — 1950 South Parker Road, Denver, CO 80231. Highly-rated West African and Senegalese spot with outdoor seating, live music, and authentic Jollof Rice. Great for a casual evening with colleagues.
  • Barwaaqo Restaurant — Denver area. West African cuisine including Nigerian-style dishes, popular with the local African community.
  • Home Style Foods — Aurora/Denver area. Traditional West African home-style cooking including stews, rice dishes, and comfort food reminiscent of Nigerian home cooking.

Restaurant hours can vary — we recommend calling ahead or checking Google Maps before visiting.

  Things To Do

  • Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre — A stunning natural rock formation amphitheater ~15 miles from downtown Denver. Catch a concert, do sunrise yoga, or hike trails with breathtaking mountain views.
  • Denver Art Museum — World-class collection of Native American and contemporary art; a short drive from the hotel.
  • Union Station (LoDo) — Beautifully restored historic train station in Lower Downtown Denver featuring upscale shops, restaurants, and bars.
  • Denver Botanic Gardens — Peaceful urban oasis; perfect for a relaxing afternoon between conference sessions.
  • 16th Street Mall — A mile-long pedestrian promenade lined with shops, restaurants, and street performers. Free shuttle runs the full length.
  • Rocky Mountain Day Trips — The Rockies are just 45 minutes away. Consider a scenic drive to Evergreen, Echo Lake, or Mt. Evans — one of the highest paved roads in North America.
  • Meow Wolf Convergence Station — An immersive, mind-bending art experience unlike anything else. A memorable evening outing for conference-goers.
  • Coors Field — Catch a Colorado Rockies MLB game at this iconic downtown ballpark. Great for a casual evening with colleagues.

  Safety & Helpful Tips

  • Altitude awareness: Aurora and Denver sit at ~5,280 ft above sea level. Drink extra water on arrival and limit alcohol until your body adjusts.
  • Sun protection: The high altitude means stronger UV rays. Apply sunscreen even on partly cloudy days.
  • Dress in layers: Mornings and evenings can be significantly cooler than midday — especially if visiting Red Rocks or outdoor venues.
  • Emergency: For emergencies dial 911. Denver Health Medical Center: (303) 436-6000.
  • Pharmacy: Several Walgreens and CVS pharmacies are located within minutes of the conference hotel.
  • ATMs: Widely available throughout Aurora and downtown Denver.

  Getting Around

  • From Denver International Airport (DEN): The airport is ~15 miles from the conference hotel (~20-minute drive). Take the A Line Rail (RTD) to Union Station for $10.50 each way, then connect by rideshare or bus to Aurora. Uber/Lyft and hotel shuttles are also available at all terminals.
  • Rideshare: Uber and Lyft are widely available throughout the metro area.
  • RTD Light Rail & Bus: Affordable public transit connecting Aurora, downtown Denver, suburbs, and the airport.
  • 16th Street Mall Free Shuttle: Runs from Union Station through downtown Denver at no cost.
  • Walking: The conference hotel has ample parking and is easily accessible by car or rideshare.

  Weather in September

September in the Aurora-Denver area is one of the best times to visit — warm sunny days and cool, comfortable evenings. Expect daytime highs in the upper 70s–low 80s°F (25–28°C) with evenings cooling to the low 50s°F (~12°C). Denver enjoys over 300 sunny days per year. Pack a light jacket for evenings and outdoor activities. The high altitude means the sun is deceptively intense — sunscreen is a must even on mild days.
